PrintDreams collaborates with Mid Sweden University around real-time optical positioning for consumer products
PrintDreams know-how around real-time, high-precision, optical surface positioning that has resulted into the world-leading OptoNav™ technology is now being utilized in a research project at Mid Sweden University. The project will help to design more generic optical positioning systems that will target consumer products.
KISTA, Sweden; January 8, 2008 - -
The main issues to be addressed by the project are related to the design of a positioning sensor that is cost-effective and small enough to be integrated in consumer products across a wide range of segments such as printer devices, free roving products, vehicles, head mounted display systems, etc.
PrintDreams has been newly restructured and the company's previous engagement in the development of mass consumer products such as the Xyron® Design Runner™ and its accessory, Xyron® Design Disc Maker™, will also be useful to define the suitability of a positioning sensor to gain acceptance within consumer products.
One additional collaboration partner will be MEEQ AB that has developed another world-leading optical positioning system known as PosEye®. It allows high-accuracy positioning with six degrees of freedom and therefore suitable for objects that move not only in a surface but in a three dimensional space. A typical application is embedding PosEye into a head mounted stereo display allowing virtual worlds to be experienced fully immersed and free roving just as the real world.
Benny Thörnberg at Mid Sweden University will be leading the project during the next three years using funds of a total of 3,7MSEK assigned by the Swedish KK-foundation, MEEQ and PrintDreams.
PrintDreams’ leading system engineer and inventor of OptoNav, Gleb Chirikov, will play an important role in the project.

About PrintDreams
PrintDreams is a Hi-Tech company, which develops markets and sells license rights for innovative technical solutions within the printer industry. The company has developed the RMPT technology which allows the manufacture of truly portable printer devices thus making them suitable for mobile applications.
Other advantages of the RMPT technology include its high level of flexibility, as it allows users to print almost all formats on most surfaces as well as its cost-effectiveness, directly related to hundreds of mechanical parts being replaced by intelligent software.
PrintDreams has also developed the world’s foremost accurate optical navigation sensor called OptoNav. This sensor will be used for more advanced printer products that the company is currently industrializing. To find out more about the company and its technologies please visit: www.printdreams.com
